German crime gang aiding IRA assassins

March 13, 1980

Remnants of the Baader-Meinhof group are helping members of the provisional wing of the illegal Irish Republican Army, who have shot three British soldiers in West Germany, according to IRA sources here. They were said to provide accommodation and documents and to carry guns and ammunition for an IRA assasination squad which arrived in West Germany late last year posing as migrant workers.

The attacks are designed to sow anxiety among soldiers, many of them resting from arduous duties in British-ruled Northern Ireland.
