Iran resumes construction on petrochemical complex

March 3, 1980

Construction work on a $3 billion petrochemical complex in southern Iran resumed Sunday after a year's halt, the Oil Ministry announced. The official Pars News Agency, quoting a ministry statement, said operations began when Japanese experts and Iranian managers arrived on the site, at Bandar Khomeini. The project, a joint venture between Iran and a Japanese consortium led by Mitsui Industrial Group, was halted last March after Iran's revolution. It was then 85 percent complete.
