February 19, 1980

George Bush emerged the clear victor in Puerto Rico's Republican primay election, the first in the 1980 presidential race and the first in the island's history. The win Sunday gave Mr. Bush a boost going into the New Hampshire primary Feb. 26 and meant all 14 Puerto Rican delegates to the Republican National Convention in Detroit next July would be committed to him on the first ballot. The other six candidates were far behind.
