Carter favored 6 to 1 in poll of party leaders

Democratic leaders believe by a 6- to-1 margin that President Carter will defeat Sen. Edward M. Kennedy for their party's presidential nomination, according to a poll by U.S. News & World Report. The poll said 83 percent of the officials contacted said Mr. Carter would beat the Massachusetts senator, while 14 percent said Mr. Kennedy would beat Mr. Carter. California Gov. Edmund Brown Jr. received no votes.
