Brooke backs Anderson for GOP nomination

February 1, 1980

Former US Sen. Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts re-entered the political arena Thursday by endorsing Rep. John B. Anderson, the illinois liberal, for the Republican nomination for president. Now associated with a private law firm with offices in Washington and Boston, Mr. Brooke told a press conference: "John Anderson can win" when women, blacks, the elderly, and people who believe in fiscal responsibility and a strong national defense actively work for his election.
