Thinking in the Rain

January 15, 1980

It is as if this legendary rain Were some almost forgotten covenant Written in slated ink on leaf and lane, To trace the endless course of time's intent. It is as if the flooded past unscrolled A long remembered heritage; A rainbow story, whisperingly told In rain, heard faintly from another age. It is as if another dove were sent Out searching for a greener spring; To change the fiery course of some event, To keep the earth from perishing.
