Rhodesia students protest S. African role in Nigeria

January 9, 1980

Rhodesian students occupied the British High Commission offices here for 12 hours Tuesday to protest the presence of South African troops in Zimbabwe Rhodesia. Police reported no violence during the occupation but said members of the British diplomatic staff were trapped in their offices throughout the siege. The occupation ended late Tuesday when the students responded to an Appeal by Nigerian President Shehu Shagari and left the premises.
