CBC within a hair of ABC in season's TV ratings

January 3, 1980

The season's supposed television network underdog, CBS, pulled to three-tenths of a Nielsen-rating point behind ABC for the season, as of the week ending Dec. 30. With 8 of the top 10 shows and its new series "House Calls" and "Knots Landing" apparent successes, CBS appeared to be a shoo-in to take top season honors if it weren't for the sure ratings of the Winter Olympics, still to come on ABC. The top show of the week was "60 Minutes" (CBS), with "Trapper John" (CBS) the only new show of the season to make the top 20.
