Elizabeth, N.J., takes action to end 'sickout'

January 3, 1980

Mayor Thomas G. Dunn has declared an emergency in Elizabeth in an attempt to force dissident police staging a "sickout" back on the job. The entire day shift of the police department called in sick Wednesday, the second day of a "blue-flu epidemic."

Mayor Dunn also said the city was going to court Wednesday to seek an injunction against the job action, which began with the swing shift Tuesday.
