In short (2)
Woody Woodpecker at the Smithsonian Institution. It couldn't happen to a nicer bird.
Sometimes cartoons not hatched in the capacious Disney nest - and perpetually reincarnated through the vast Disney enterprises - get overlooked. But the laughs Woody has given the world are one of the reasons to remember cartoonmaker Walter Lantz - not to mention Mrs. Lantz, whose voice gave Woody his own wild giggle.
We can hear him now, scheming to put one over on us even as we join the admirers of his artifacts that the Smithsonian has chosen to honor.
