A truce between Syrian troops and Christian militias came into effect in the eastern town of Zahle, Lebanon, Monday after some of the heaviest fighting in Lebanon in two years.The state-run Radio Beirut said the truce went into effect after President Elias Sarkis spokewith his defense minister and military commanders. But security sources said that neither side had withdrawn from the town and that its residents were sheltering in basements.
