As of Wednesday morning, several French media outlets had obtained and published the name of the woman who accused Strauss-Kahn. The practice, while permissible in France, is outlawed in Britain under the Sexual Offenses Act, which protects the identity of an assault victim, The Telegraph notes.
In the US, it is the norm among media outlets to not identify sexual assault victims, although doing so is not actually illegal.
