Earlier today a reporter for the The Daily News Egypt captured footage of Cairo protesters taking shelter behind and among armored vehicles of the army. Who were they were sheltering from? The Egyptian police.
The Egypt story is now moving at dizzying speed and Hosni Mubarak's grip on power is looking increasingly shaky. In the past hour, the government announced Egyptian Foreign Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman was sworn in as Vice President. President Mubarak was Anwar Sadat's vice president, and came to power after President Sadat's assassination.
In the 30 years since, Mubarak has never appointed a VP of his own, presumably because he didn't want an obvious alternative to his own rule.
At any rate, the video below (about 50 seconds in tells the whole story) helps fuel a narrative of a military supporting the people, and unwilling to participate in a harsh crackdown to support Mubarak.
