Mega-university systems: homes to six-digit enrollments
While Ohio State University is generally acknowledged to have the largest on-campus enrollment in the US (an estimated 52,000 students), the largest overall student body belongs to the State University of New York (SUNY) at 427,000. Its network includes everything from community colleges to doctoral programs. (California, by comparison, divides its higher educational network into separate systems for junior colleges, universities, and an upper tier of research universities.) As large as the comprehensive SUNY system is, it pales in comparison with the largest international universities, such as Pakistan's Allama Iqbal Open University, which is focused on providing local educational opportunities to working people.
