President Bush "remains committed to fostering interfaith harmony among all religions," the White House said in announcing his plans to attend an interfaith conference at the UN in New York Nov. 13. The meeting is a follow-up to one held in July called by King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and King Juan Carlos of Spain.

Amtrak, the government-owned passenger train service, drew a record 28.7 million customers in the year ending Sept. 30, an 11 percent increase over the previous year and the sixth straight year ridership has increased.

Drug treatment is on the rise among children diagnosed with chronic conditions, according to a study published Monday by Express Scripts Inc., a manager of health insurance benefits. Medical prescriptions for certain conditions increased nearly 50 percent between 2002 and 2005.

The Justice Department will not charge first-term Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons (R) with corruption, his attorney learned Sunday. An FBI investigation failed to link Gibbons with accepting gifts from a software company that received military contracts.

Efforts to turn prisons "green" are on the rise across the country, as prison administrators respond to pressures to conserve energy, reduce waste, and generally be more environmentally conscious, the Associated Press reports. In North Carolina, state prisons have switched to chemical-free cleaners; in Indiana, correctional facilities have installed water boilers that run on waste wood chips; and in Washington State, Cedar Creek inmates have grown 8,000 pounds of organic vegetables this year.

Predatory falcons could be enlisted at Bagram Air Force base in Afghanistan to help deal with smaller birds that increasingly strike planes as they take off, land, and taxi, according to The Washington Post. Military personnel have tried vainly to scare away the birds in various ways, so now will see if a private contractor can do the job.

The Tennessee Titans (8-0) remain the National Football League's last perfect-record team after defeating the Green Bay Packers Sunday, 19-16, with a 41-yard field goal in overtime. The win was a franchise record 11th straight in regular season play.
