PGA Championship: Tiger stumbles, Stricker streaks to opening round lead

PGA Championship: The 2011 PGA Championship teed off Thursday morning outside Atlanta, Georgia. Tiger Woods had a rough first round, while Steve Stricker put himself into title contention.

Tiger Woods shot a seven over par 77 Thursday in the first round of the 93rd PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia.

Tiger's scorecard included five bogeys, three double bogeys, and four birdies. Last week, Woods finished tied for 37th at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio, his first golf action in three months after recovering from a injuries to his leg.

Meanwhile, Steve Stricker was on fire. The veteran PGA tour pro fired a seven under 63 and took the early first round lead.

Stricker began the back nine with three consecutive birdies, and added four more during the course of his first round. The Wisconsin native has already won twice on the PGA Tour this year, capturing both the Memorial Tournament and John Deere Classic.

Fellow Wisconsinite Jerry Kelly shot a five under 65 Thursday, good for second place so far.
