In a nail-biter, Representative Titus lost by less than one percentage point to Joe Heck, an Army physician who also served in Nevada’s state Senate.

After receiving a Ph.D. in government from Florida State University in 1977, Titus taught at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas for more than a decade and wrote two books before running for the House in 2008.
