Crocuses that flower in fall

Although they aren't always easy to find locally, two fall-flowering bulbs are fun to grow and can be planted during August. Ask for autumn crocus (Colchicum autumnale) and other varieties of Colchicum. Some of the latter may look like the familiar spring-flowering crocus, but many have blooms that are quite different.
