What has "Guardians of the Galaxy" star, Chris Pratt, getting teary-eyed?

In an interview with Digital Spy on Tuesday, Pratt revealed that "Guardians" director James Gunn had filled him in on all of the details for the upcoming sequel.

"His pitch and his idea, legitimately put tears in my eyes. It's so good. So good."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will continue the story of the "Starlord," played by a comical yet insightful Pratt, and is set to begin production in early 2016.

The first film, which opened in theaters worldwide in the summer of 2014, garnered a hefty $94 million in its opening weekend according to Variety magazine. The movie currently has a rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, a film review aggregator.

Not surprisingly, viewers were left wanting more.

It also helps that "Guardians of the Galaxy" ends on a major cliffhanger. Peter Quill, known by his pseudonym Starlord, learns that his father isn't human and is part of an ancient unidentified species. With that, the film ends and fans are left to hypothesize about the mysterious father's identity.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Gunn made it clear that the identity of Starlord's father, as revealed in the comics, would not be the same in the film.

"It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I’ll say that much."

With that, film-lovers and comic book fans alike are left to wait for the sequel.

When the interviewer asked Pratt if he was in on the secret, he said that he knew "everything" and nodded his head with a sly smile.

Pratt's interview came just one day after Gunn tweeted a picture of the sequel's finished script, a milestone in production.

Fans took to Twitter to express their excitement about the new script and the upcoming film.

Others responded to the story on Comicbook.com's Facebook page. The comment section was filled with messages of excitement and curiosity as to what had provoked Pratt's tears.

"I absolutely cannot wait for this!!!" said one.

"That means we are gonna cry a lot," said another, clearly taking Pratt's words to heart.

Pratt told Digital Spy that he wouldn't be giving out any details of the upcoming film, because "it would be a little bit like telling a kid what's under the tree before Christmas morning," and he encouraged fans not to go searching for information.

"I would encourage people not to poke holes in the paper and peek. Allow yourself the Christmas morning. Don't ruin it."
