Homeland struggle

POV” will present A World Not Ours, a memoir film by Mahdi Fleifel about his family’s experiences in the Ain el-Helweh refugee camp for permanently exiled Palestinians in Lebanon. Fleifel struggles to reconcile the prevalent sense of disillusionment and displacement among the refugees with his personal quest to find a sense of home. It airs on PBS on Aug. 18 at 10 p.m.

In the deep

The Discovery Channel kicks off its annual Shark Week Aug. 10. Highlights from the week-long programming will include “Shark After Dark,” a nightly talk show featuring celebrities and shark experts who will answer viewer questions, and “Lair of the Mega Shark,” which details a search in New Zealand for a 20-foot great white, in addition to other real shark tales.

High standards

The presciently titled Last Dance is, sadly, the last recording we’ll hear from the gifted duo of pianist Keith Jarrett and bassist Charlie Haden, who died in July. This beautiful and deftly played collection of American jazz standards by two masters at the pinnacle of their art makes you feel like a privileged eavesdropper on an intimate conversation. Haden will be missed, but his gift will shine on with recordings like this.

Big-screen soccer

Good news for soccer fans who may be going through withdrawal after the World Cup: Fathom Events and NBC Sports Group will be presenting Barclays Premier League LIVE in movie theaters across the US beginning Aug. 16. Games between clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea will be broadcast through October, complete with interviews and game analysis live from England during halftime. No sad desk lunch

Summertime means there is plenty of fresh produce to pack for lunch. Julia Mirabella offers an ingenious idea in her cookbook, Mason Jar Salads. Mix up a vinaigrette, place it in the bottom of a mason jar and then build your salad upside down. When you dump out your salad, the dressing comes out last and your greens are still fresh. Mirabella offers delicious recipes for salad combos, dressings, smoothies, and other light meal ideas to perk up your lunch.
