Oculus and Infinitas: Super yachts for the super rich

Recession? You'd never know it aboard the Oculus and Infinitas super yachts.

Both ships, by Schöpfer Yachts, offer plenty of distractions from any troubles felt back on shore.

Oculus, the company's first designer craft, steeps up to 12 guests in $95-million's worth of nautical luxury. The 250-foot vessel features 12-foot ceilings, elevator tube, retractable wave-guards, and lavish second-story "Owner's suite."

"The exterior styling is representative of the jaw and eye socket bone structure of large oceanic fish and mammals," says Schöpfer's website. This killer-whale frame is fashioned for "long distance cruising," and the beast can hit 25 knots.

Up on the third level, the captain gets his own quarters and pilothouse, set aside from the passengers' salon and deck.

E. Kevin Schöpfer, founder of the company and designer of this first yacht, told CNN that he's partnering with Sparkman & Stevens to bring this model to life.

He's also building a $140-million sister ship, the Infinitas. Inspired by the infinity symbol, this 300-footer houses a pool deck, living room, dining area, kitchen, clear-glass sky bridge, and helicopter pad. (Click through the slide show above for more images.)

"There are several potential clients interested in both Oculus and Infinitas and discussions are ongoing," Mr. Schöpfer told CNN. "And we are also working on several more yachts."

Have a taste for the richer things in life? Have you seen Dubai’s twirling tower, the city's refrigerated beach, or Paris’s "Pyramid Project" that casts no shadow.
