Cars fill the highway Nov. 22, 2011, in San Diego. Before you set out on your Thanksgiving trek, log in to the Federal Highway Adminstration's website for traffic conditions and road closures.

If transportation via highway is your mode of travel this season, then utilize this website from the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration. You can search for national traffic and road closure information. You will find updates on traffic conditions as well as weather and road conditions. For example, once you have selected your state, the results will show roadwork, lane closures, traffic problems, road conditions, even areas that present danger, and the current location of traffic accidents.
