Eggs. Shrek glasses. Sure, but what was the top recall of 2010?

9. Kellogg’s cereal

Smelly and tainted Kellogg’s cereal resulted in a recall of 28 million boxes in June after five people reported feeling nauseous and 20 others filed general complaints. Some of the brands affected included Apple Jacks, Honey Smacks, Fruit Loops, and Corn Pops.

The foul smell came from the lining of the packaging, but Kellogg did not address the exact substance that caused the odor. “The off-taste and smell is caused by a slightly elevated level of substance commonly present at very low levels in the waxy resins used to make the packaging materials,” the company said.

“Most recall cases are related to problems with packaging,” says Mr. Mays.
