Richard Linklater may direct a movie adaptation of Maria Semple’s bestseller “Where’d You Go, Bernadette.”

The 2012 book centers on Bernadette Fox and her daughter, Bee. When Bernadette vanishes before a family trip to Antarctica, Bee tries to discover what happened.

Linklater is in talks to take on the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Linklater was nominated for a Best Director Oscar this year for his work on the Best Picture frontrunner “Boyhood” (the prize went to the film “Birdman”). The director has also helmed such movies as the “Before” series (“Before Sunrise,” “Before Sunset,” and “Before Midnight”), “School of Rock,” “Dazed and Confused,” and “Bernie.”
