The 'Game of Thrones' TV series stars Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen.

The upcoming fantasy anthology “Dangerous Women,” which is being co-edited by “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin, will include a novella by the author which is set in the “Thrones” universe.

The book’s publisher, Tor, recently posted an excerpt of the novella, which is titled “The Princess and the Queen, or The Blacks and the Greens,” on its site. The novella details struggles for the Iron Throne of the country of Westeros almost 200 years before the events of the “Throne” universe. In “Princess,” members of the house of Targaryen (the family of “Thrones” heroine Daenerys) are battling for the right to rule.

“Dangerous Women,” which is edited by author Gardner Dozois in addition to Martin, also includes works by writers Diana Gabaldon, Lev Grossman, and others. The running theme, according to an introduction by Dozois, is exactly as the title states.

“Here you’ll find no hapless victims who stand by whimpering in dread while the male hero fights the monster or clashes swords with the villain,” Dozois writes. “And if you want to tie these women to the railroad tracks, you’ll find you have a real fight on your hands.”

The anthology is scheduled for a Dec. 3 release.
