Katherine by Anchee Min is an outstanding and powerful book by an excellent author. It appears to be the Min’s first novel, but I couldn’t put it down and I read it in three days. Katherine is an American girl in her 30s teaching English in China for a year. She has a tremendous impact on her students, especially the narrator, Zebra, a young woman of 30.
