Reader recommendation: The Hare with Amber Eyes

Monitor readers share their favorite book picks.

The Hare with Amber Eyes by Edmund de Waal traces the travels of a collection of Japanese netsuke (small carved figurines) that has been in de Waal’s family since the late 1800’s. The descriptions of the art in the family apartments in Paris has me looking up every painting as I read – which makes for slow but delightful reading.
