Michael Holtz is the Beijing bureau chief for The Monitor. He first wrote for The Monitor as a freelance reporter covering Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013. Since joining The Monitor full-time the following year, he has covered a wide range of stories across Asia, including fish farming in China, deforestation in Indonesia, human trafficking in Thailand, and child labor in Nepal and India. Michael previously reported for The Associated Press, The Chicago Tribune, and PRI’s The World. He graduated from the University of Kansas with bachelor’s degrees in journalism and political science.
