'In God's Name,' a 90-minute special debuting on CBS, examines age-old questions of faith through the eyes of 12 of the world's top spiritual leaders.

In God's Name

(CBS, Dec. 23, 9 p.m.): In the wake of 9/11, the Naudet brothers, a documentary duo who made their name with their footage of firefighters from that day, were moved to ask the age-old question: where was God? This 97-minute special includes interviews with 12 of the top spiritual leaders from around the world. There's some predictability to their answers (God is love; God is in our common humanity), but visiting each of them in their homes and places of worship in such diverse spots as Japan, India, England, and the Vatican – while listening to such icons as the pope and the Dalai Lama speak of intimate talks with the Divine – makes for a rich and fascinating film. Grade: A – Gloria Goodale
