Monitor cartoonist Clay Bennett has won the Overseas Press Club's Thomas Nast Award for best cartoons on international affairs in 2005. He shares the award with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Mike Luckovich. The judges found a typical Bennett cartoon "makes the reader think." They cited him as a master of the "soft sell," noting one cartoon in which the United States, as a construction worker, is nailing himself into a closed room while nation-building.
