NEW RELEASES ON DVD
The Wedding Date (PG-13)

Director Clare Kilner: With Debra Messing, Dermot Mulroney, Amy Adams, Peter Egan. (90 min.)

When Kat (Messing) receives an invitation to her younger sister's wedding, she panics. Still hung up on her ex-fiancé - the best man - and desperate to prove to her family that she has moved on, she hires an escort. Despite its dishonest premise, the film focuses on Kat's discovery of the truth about past relationships and herself. The viewer is forced to fill in some elements of the plot, such as the transformation in the character of Nick (Mulroney). However, Kat's innocence, coupled with Nick's calming wisdom, makes for a heart-touching story. The DVD features an interview with Messing and a version of the film with her commentary. Grade: B+ - By Jennifer Moeller

The Muppet Show: Season One (Not Rated)

Directors: Peter Harris and Philip Casson. With Frank Oz, Jim Henson. (604 min.)

For Muppet fans, these episodes from 1976 are full of laughs. The set features such guest stars as Florence Henderson, Candice Bergen, Harvey Korman, and Phyllis Diller. The Muppet Morsels bonus feature offers trivia about the different characters and scenes. (Did you know that the original Kermit the Frog was created out of an old coat owned by Jim Henson's mother?) The set also includes the original pitch, pilot, and promo gag reel. Grade: A - J.M.
