Tension in Taiwan

Investors dumped shares while demonstrators clashed with police yesterday. A Buddhist monk, above, was among the disillusioned voters demanding that President Lee Teng-hui quit now as head of the Nationalist Party. Mr. Lee's party was defeated, for the first time in 51 years, in Saturday's election.
