The home of the 21st century

What will the home of the future look like? The editors of Metropolitan Home magazine think it will be a mixture of old and new.

"The rooms we live in will continue to be a synthesis of many periods and styles," they say. "Pleasure will continue to come from mixing the best of the present and the past and adding the comfort of handmade pieces to blunt the sharpness of cutting-edge technology."

In a 21st-century living room, they predict, a copy of a 1912 Frank Lloyd Wright sideboard will likely share space with futuristic fabrics and a high-tech home-theater system.
