Emmys Shut Out Tim Allen - Again

Last year, Tim Allen didn't get an Emmy nomination because he missed the deadline. This year, he's being snubbed by his peers.

The star of ABC's popular "Home Improvement" is not nominated for acting honors, even though his staff got the paperwork in on time. And the series, which was nominated for outstanding comedy series last year, has been shut out of the top categories this year. The annual TV awards will be held Sept.10.

Nominations for best comedy are for "Frasier," "Friends," "The Larry Sanders Show," "Mad About You," and "Seinfeld."

For best actor in a comedy, nominations go to "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer; Garry Shandling, "The Larry Sanders Show"; Paul Reiser, "Mad About You"; John Goodman, "Roseanne"; and Jerry Seinfeld, "Seinfeld."

Nominations for best actress in a comedy series: Helen Hunt, "Mad About You"; Candice Bergen, "Murphy Brown"; Ellen Degeneres, "Ellen"; Roseanne, "Roseanne"; Cybill Shepherd, "Cybill."

The new hospital drama from NBC, "E.R.," was the runaway nomination-getter with 20. ABC's "NYPD Blue" star Dennis Franz was nominated for best actor in a drama series for the second year. Other nominations went to Mandy Patinkin, "Chicago Hope," CBS; Anthony Edwards, "E.R."; George Clooney, "E.R."; and Jimmy Smits, "NYPD Blue."
