Church Sells Shortwave Radio Station

THE Christian Science Church announced Tuesday it had completed the sale of WCSN, its shortwave station in Scott's Corners, Maine.

The station was sold to World Voice of Historic Adventism Inc., an affiliate of Prophecy Countdown, for $5 million. The purchase price was paid entirely in cash. A purchase-and-sale agreement was signed in January 1994.

``When the Scott's Corners station began operation in 1987, it was our best option for reaching Europe and Africa,'' said Donald C. Bowersock, president of the church's Herald Broadcasting activity. ``More recently, with the successful operation of the Cypress Creek, S.C., station (WSHB) and the addition of the new antenna there, it became clear that we will be able to reach Europe and Africa more efficiently using the South Carolina station.''

The church's shortwave radio broadcasts feature news programming using material from The Christian Science Monitor, Monday through Friday. During the weekend, the stations air religious programs, including a broadcast of the Sunday service at The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston.

WSHB reaches North America, South America, Central America, Canada, Europe, and Africa. In the South Pacific, the church also broadcasts from KHBI on Saipan in the Mariana Islands. This station serves Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
