Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

ABOVE THE RIM

(R, New Line Home Video). Underneath the basketball play that punctuates this movie lies a story about the lures of inner-city gangs and a teenager's aspirations to attend college. Unfortunately, neither the basketball moves nor the storyline is very gripping, and the movie's vulgar language may be enough to turn some viewers away. What has appealed to audiences, though, is the movie's soundtrack, which produced several Top-40 hits. Duane Martin, Tupac Shakur, Marlon Wayans, and Leon star; directed by Jeff Pollack.
