NCAA basketball championships (CBS, noon to 9 p.m., EST): Regional telecasts of second-round games on the road to college basketball's Final Four - the four teams that will play in the NCAA semifinals (check local listings for games broadcast in your area).

Booknotes (C-Span, 8-9 p.m.): The guest is Clare Brandt, author of ``The Man in the Mirror: A Life of Benedict Arnold.''

The Birds II: Land's End (Showtime, 9-10:30 p.m.): They're b-a-a-c-k: the birds, that is - the ones in Hitchcock's 1963 film and new ones in this sequel. Tippi Hedren, featured in the original movie, now plays a storekeeper with enough sense to heed the warnings of a visitor to remote Gull Island who thinks something is ominously wrong with the birds in the area. Needless to say, it turns out he's right - the birds have a score to settle over mankind's destruction of much of their environment - and their revenge is no prettier than it was first time around.

After the new film, the Hitchcock movie will be screened, and in case you still haven't had your fill of birds with bad attitudes, a short documentary called ``Inside the Birds,'' hosted by Hedren, describes the filming of both productions. * SUNDAY

NCAA basketball championships (CBS, noon to 7 p.m., EST): More regional games. * MONDAY

The Oscars (ABC, 9 p.m. EST to conclusion): For many, it will be worth watching the 66th Annual Academy Awards just to see how many prizes are taken by ``Schindler's List.'' Steven Spielberg's drama about one man's heroic efforts to save Polish Jews from extermination by the Nazis leads this year's movies with 12 nominations.

Whoopi Goldberg presides over the usual glittery array of presenters and performers. Multi-Oscar-winner Paul Newman, who has given some $60 million (and counting) to charity, will receive the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Deborah Kerr gets an honorary Oscar for a long career defined by intelligence and a touch of elegance.
