Something About Connections

Maro and I stoop to uncoil

strings of Christmas lights,

loops of green, studded with

tiny bulbs piled up in a box,

green wire that will disappear

between small stars it unites.

Each light will be separate,

unconnected, crystal bright,

shining like remembered days

beyond ordinary time.

Maro hands me sparkling strings,

while I make a silent wish -

about invisible connections,

about this child, this night.
