MARKET SHARE UP FOR US MACHINE TOOL SECTOR

* The total output of machine tools worldwide dropped by $8 billion in 1992 to $34.6 billion, according to an annual American Machinist survey.

The 19 percent decline overall compares with a 4 percent drop in North America. The US improved its share of the world market.

Japan, Germany, and the Commonwealth of Independent States experienced the most dramatic reductions in output.
