RARE ATTACK ON WHITES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Black gunmen burst into a country club and fired indiscriminately on whites eating dinner, killing four and wounding 17, police and witnesses said yesterday.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Saturday night attack on the white civilians was extraordinary in that black political attacks on whites are rare in South Africa. Some 9,000 blacks have been killed in political violence in the past three years, virtually all of that fighting in black townships.
