'Little Awareness'

WHITE people who might not consider themselves racist are threatened by affirmative action because they know that somebody's got to pay and it's usually going to be white males. There's no doubt that I have benefited, just as anybody who's white ... has benefited, from slavery and racial discrimination....

I don't think guilty is the right word.... But I should do what I can to redistribute some of the things that have been given to me unfairly. I get accused of hyper- sensitivity [to racism, sexism] a lot.... There's little awareness on the part of white students about concerns of black students here.
