In Japan, prestige business cards made of gold have enjoyed brisk sales. Mitsubishi Metal has been selling about 5,000 monthly, notes the Gold Institute here.
The cards are often purchased by companies for their senior executives and as corporate gifts and premiums. Each costs about $50 and is made of one gram of gold covered by a clear plastic veneer on which is printed the same information as on a paper card. A post card-sized card, containing five grams of gold, has also proved popular.
