DEFENSE CONTRACTOR INDICTED

A defense contractor has been accused of using scrap metal in thousands of aircraft and tanks, endangering military troops. A nine-count indictment was returned Monday against Russell Baker Sr., and his son, Russell Baker Jr., both former presidents and general managers of Aerodyne Investment Castings Inc. Also indicted was Carman Eugene Alexander.

The three are accused of plotting to defraud the government by using scrap instead of pure metal for turbine engine blades, then certifying that the parts met specifications for pure alloys.
