FRIDAY The Music Makers: An ASCAP Celebration of American Music at Wolf Trap (PBS, 9-10:30 p.m.): Tribute to American composers and lyricists featuring Tony Bennett, Judy Collins, Roberta Flack, Bernadette Peters, Andy Williams, et al. Tokyo Day (PBS, 10:30-11 p.m.): Documentary about the importance of work to the Japanese community.

SATURDAY World Series Baseball (ABC, 8 p.m.; also Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and, if necessary, Thursday. Check late local listings). The Littlest Horse Thieves (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): Part 1 of ``Wonderworks'' family drama about three children in a Yorkshire mining town scheming to rescue pit ponies from the slaughterhouse.

SUNDAY Perspectives of Paradise (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): ``Nature'' presents wildlife photographer Dieter Plage's record of Gal'apagos life. Conspiracy of Love (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): Sensitive drama about grandpa Robert Young's attachment to granddaughter Drew Barrymore. Eight is Enough: A Family Reunion (NBC, 9-11 p.m.): Most of the original clan from this 1977-81 series gathers for Dad's (Dick Van Patten) 50th birthday. Lots of hugging and chuckling ... and tears.

MONDAY A Family Tree (PBS, 10-10:30 p.m.): Premi`ere of ``Trying Times,'' an original comedy series celebrating the humor of coping with life's changes.

TUESDAY Soldier Boys (CBS, 4-5 p.m.): ``Schoolbreak Special'' about youthful fascination with war games. Looking (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): Premi`ere of ``The Ring of Truth,'' a six-part science series.

WEDNESDAY The Day My Kid Went Punk (ABC, 4-5 p.m.): An ``Afterschool Special'' about an overnight punker. Mark Russell Comedy Special (PBS, 8-8:30 p.m.): TV's only regularly-scheduled political satirist strikes again. Sadie and Son (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): Would you believe Debbie Reynolds as a street-smart New York City cop? A made-for-TV movie. Drive-in Blues (PBS, 10:30-11 p.m.): A nostalgic look at the drive-in movie business. Legacy of the Hollywood Blacklist (PBS, 10-11 p.m.): Burt Lancaster hosts this examination of the personal tragedies resulting from the 1950s investigations of alleged Communist activities in Hollywood.

THURSDAY Baryshnikov: The Dancer and the Dance (Arts & Ent/cable, 9-10:30 p.m., also 1 a.m.): In this 1982 documentary, Shirley MacLaine hosts a profile of Baryshnikov.
