Methanol and ethanol

Methanol is derived from natural gas, coal, wood, and a variety of other materials. It is cheaper than gasoline and an estimated one-fourth the cost of ethanol. Ethanol is made from a variety of bases, including grain and sugar cane and is sold in some markets as gasohol.

The Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association says that ethanol or methanol blends can be good for a car if that car is built to ingest an alcohol additive.
