TUruguay court lifts 2 charges jailed political leader

Uruguay's supreme court withdrew two charges Thursday against jailed Blanco Party leader Wilson Ferreira Aldunate, whose detention since returning from exile last June prevented him from running in the country's first elections for 13 years.

The court has withdrawn charges of subversion and exposing the country to the risk of war. His lawyers can now apply for his release. The one remaining charge against him - that of attacking the morale of the armed forces - will be referred to a military court.
