Kirkpatrick plans to leave UN and return to private life

UN Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick announced Tuesday her intention to resign and ''return to private life'' sometime after the end of the 39th General Assembly session in December. She has not submitted her resignation to the White House but said she intended to talk soon with the President to ''work something out.''

President Reagan has asked Defense Secretary Caspar W. Wein-berger to keep his job during the second Reagan term and Mr. Weinberger has accepted, a White House official said Monday.

Deputy White House press secretary Bob Sims said national-security adviser Robert C. McFarlane, CIA Director William Casey, and Secretary of State George P. Shultz have also agreed to stay on the job.
