Austrian official first to visit Warsaw from West since '81

Austrian Foreign Minister Leopold Gratz arrived in Poland Tuesday, becoming the first Western official to visit the country since the government imposed martial law in December of 1981. His three-day official trip is the first of a series of visits to Poland by high-ranking Western European government officials.

Government spokesman Jerzy Urban said the visits showed that Western Europe had ended its post-martial law isolation of Poland, despite a continued freeze of Polish-US relations.
