India decides that troops will leave Sikhs' shrine

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's Cabinet decided Tuesday to withdraw Army troops from the Sikhs' Golden Temple in Amritsar next weekend, a senior government source reported. The decision to end the three-month occupation of the Sikh sect's holiest shrine was made because repair of the temple complex, damaged in a violent battle in June, has nearly been completed.
