Reinstated Indian official wins key confidence vote

The state government of N. T. Rama Rao, a bitter opponent of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, won an important confidence vote Thursday. He was reinstated as chief minister of Andhra Pradesh State Sunday after nationwide protests against his ouster a month earlier by Gandhi loyalists, who had contended he did not have a majority in the state legislature.
